Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an plans to address reported issues at Taipei Dome, including water leakages and unclear signage causing traffic confusion. The recent Yomiuri Giants exhibition game drew criticism from city councilors, prompting proactive investigation by the Taipei City Government. Chiang emphasized the city’s role in assisting and supervising the Build-Operate-Transfer project run by Farglory Group. Farglory Group’s spokesperson acknowledged oversight in fan movement and committed to working with the city government to resolve issues promptly. Chiang highlighted the need for an overall review of Taipei Dome’s operations.

Chiang Wan-an vows to enhance communication with the council after his budget proposals, including the ＂Taipei International Music Festival＂ and free 30-minute YouBike rides, were rejected. He hopes council members will understand the purpose of the budget plans and is open to making adjustments based on their views. Chiang remains committed to better communication, particularly regarding the music festival and YouBike service. He appreciates the recommendations made by councilors during the budget review process and assures that the city government will be open-minded and make appropriate adjustments.

Taoyuan City has screened over 20,000 residents aged 40 and older for lung cancer through a free low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scan program. However, only 18,000 have completed the examination, with 1,036 cases requiring further tracking and 63 confirmed lung cancer diagnoses. Taoyuan City Councilors raised concerns about the limited number of participating hospitals and the budget allocation for the program. The Taoyuan Public Health Department reported that 18 medical institutions currently provide the LDCT service, with plans to add four or five more next year. They assured that the program will continue with the same eligibility criteria and quotas, and aim to integrate smart technology to expedite the screening process. The screening service targets individuals with high-risk factors such as tobacco exposure, relevant medical and family history, occupational exposure, and air pollution. Occupational exposure includes individuals who have worked in environments with asbestos, arsenic, cadmium, nickel, or dust for over ten years.

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an gave a positive assessment of the trial match held at the Taipei Dome, stating that there is room for improvement and that the citizens will ultimately decide. During a City Council meeting, Councilors Chen Yi-chun and Hung Wan-jen raised concerns about various issues observed during the trial match. These included the absence of surveillance cameras in the underground parking lots, water stains in the lobby, accumulated water underground, disarray among people and YouBike users, water supply problems in the toilets, unremitting water flow in some sinks, the lack of vending machines, and bilingual signage issues. Mayor Chiang promised to demand that the Farglory Group, the construction contractors, address these issues and make improvements. The trial match was conducted to assess the condition and facilities of the long-awaited multi-purpose stadium.

The Taipei Dome plans to hold a public try-out of its capacity, allowing 13 thousand people to attend on November 18. Taipei city councilors raised concerns about the Dome’s readiness to accommodate up to 40 thousand people and requested information on testing. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an assured that phased testing would be completed within a year. The Dome’s construction began in the early 2000s and the main building was completed in April. It is expected to function as an indoor multi-functional gym with a capacity of 40 thousand seats. For safety reasons, the Dome will primarily host competitive sports events, initially opening lower infield seats for 13 thousand people. The city government has requested that Farglory, the construction company, provide free use of its facilities while the Dome’s operating permit is pending approval. The Dome is equipped with a parking lot that can accommodate 969 vehicles and 1116 motorbikes, aiming to meet the public’s needs throughout the year.

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an has called on the Farglory Group to address the lack of signage and safety concerns at the Taipei Dome stadium. The Dome is set to undergo a full-capacity test within a year. Democratic Progressive Party City Councilor Chen Yi-chun raised concerns about missing signage and the narrow underground parking lot, which lacks reflective warning signs. In response, Chiang stated that the city government would request immediate improvements from Farglory. Taipei City Councilors Lin Liang-jyun and Chien Shu-pei also questioned the venue’s ability to handle crowd dispersal and overall safety. Lin cited the recent crowd dispersal speed in Kaohsiung after a Coldplay concert and asked how long it would take to evacuate the expected 13,000 attendees at the Taipei Dome test event. Taipei MRT officials assured the council that they have experience with crowd dispersal during New Year’s Eve events and estimated that it could take approximately half an hour for visitors to evacuate.

The Taipei City Government has agreed to cover the remaining bill of NT$190 million for the completed Taipei Music Center. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an made the decision in order to avoid the city government spending NT$800,000 per month on interest. The city councilors supported the decision but emphasized that the final payment responsibility still needs to be clarified. The Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Tsai Shi-Ping, has promised to submit a complete report within two weeks. Councilor Chien Shu-pei supported the prepayment but also highlighted the need for continued coordination with the Department of Cultural Affairs, which may involve litigation. If litigation is lost, further discussions will be necessary to determine who will bear the legal expenses.

Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an responded to concerns from city councilors and pledged to create more social housing units for small families in Taipei on Tuesday (June 6).
